Trail Talk
Some locations on Skylake's hiking trails may be without markers
while volunteers work to refurbish and replace them. The trails and
their markers were created and developed long ago by resident
volunteers. Although paths are continually maintained by the Natural
Resources Committee's volunteer trail crew, the time has come to spiff
up the signs, which are especially important to visitors and newcomers.
In the meantime, follow the blazes.
911 Numbers
Is your 911 number conspicuously visible from the road? If this
critical information is not posted, do it today! Without those numbers,
emergency responders may waste valuable time looking for your house.
Culvert Clearing
"Clearing and maintaining driveway culverts throughout Skylake is the
responsibility of the Owner, not the Skylake Property Owner's
Association."
-- This policy was re-affirmed by the Board of Directors on July 21,
2001 .
Waste Management
Break up those boxes. If the Dumpster looks full check the back side
for space. If all the Dumpsters are full take the trash home until bins
are empty. Trash is collected on Tuesday and Friday. Extra pick-up
days are scheduled around holidays. Do not leave an item outside the
Dumpsters in hopes that someone else might want it. If your discard is
useable, take it to one of the many local thrift stores. The Dumpster
collectors only empty the bin. Stray trash has to be corralled by the
maintenance crew, which takes valuable time from other assignments.
Reminders
Control Your Pets
From the Amended and Restated Declaration of Covenants
Conditions and Restrictions for Skylake:
11. Use Restrictions:
(j) Pets. . . . All dogs and cats must be registered and
vaccinated by law. . . Pets may not be left unattended outdoors. All
pets must be kept on a leash and be under the physical control of a
responsible person at all times while outdoors in unfenced areas.
No structure for the care, housing, or confinement of any pet shall be
constructed or maintained on any part of the Property without prior
written Board approval . . . .
Vehicle Storage and Parking
From the Amended and Restated Declaration of
Covenants
Conditions and Restrictions for Skylake:
11. Use Restrictions:
(k) Parking. Vehicles, including motorcycles, shall be
parked only in spaces designated for parking on the Common Properties or
on the Owner's Lot.
The following vehicles are strictly prohibited from being parked,
stored, or allowed to remain on the Properties (except in areas, if any,
specifically designated by the Board of Directors for parking or storing
an otherwise prohibited vehicle): disabled vehicles, stored vehicles,
vehicles over twenty (20) feet in length or having more than four (4)
wheels, trucks with a capacity of more than one (1) ton (other than mini
vans), boats and similar recreational vehicles, trailers of any kind,
vehicles primarily used for commercial purposes, vehicles used for
storage of machinery, equipment, tools, or similar materials, and
vehicles with commercial writings on their exteriors . . .
Be Aware, Be Responsible
As in any community, people frequent Skylake homes to make
deliveries, perform services, or build or remodel homes. No doubt 99.9
percent of these folks are honest. Just be aware and take precautions to
protect your property. Skylake's not a kid anymore. Your property is
your responsibility.
Tree Permits
The Natural Resource Committee reminds property owners
that they need to fill out a form and have it approved before removing
trees larger than six inches in diameter on their property. Trees in
question should be marked with survey tape. A NRC member will visit your
site and make a recommendation to the committee. The forms are available
at the office.
Volunteers
Volunteers and volunteer groups are asked to touch base,
in writing, with the Board of Directors and the Skylake office before
embarking on major community projects.
911 Escorts
If you know your way around Skylake from the far reaches
of Grimes Nose to the big bend on North Wind, there’s a job for you with
an escort service. Not THAT kind of escort service! The kind of escort
who greets emergency responders at the front gate or at the maintenance
area entrance and leads them through the twists and turns to wherever an
emergency is reported. If you’re interested, contact Harvey Willis at
878-3458.

Knit or Crochet?
Knitting needles and crochet hooks are flying fashioning hats,
scarves, mittens for White County youngsters. Use your own patterns and
imagination to add to this cold weather apparel or stop by the cottage
on Fridays at 10 a.m. for yarn, directions, fellowship and a few good
laughs. Questions? Call Nancy Gottschang (706-878-1098) or Pauline Bassler
(706-878-5503).
