An Overview
We are proud of Skylake, our 1,350-acre, rustic, gated community in the Appalachian foothills of northeast Georgia. Approximately 432 houses sit on 540 lots, most of which are at least one acre. There are 15 1/2 miles of paved roadways. Four wells, 140,000-gallon water storage tank, and approximately 19 miles of pipeline supply the communitys water. There are 350 acres of greenbelt/common property, which include a large pasture, more than 12 miles of well-kept, well-marked hiking trails and a park at York Falls where a spring-fed creek cascades down a rocky channel. Sky Lake and Sautee Lake, about 20 and 10 acres respectively, offer fishing and boating.
Skylake is considered by residents to be a wildlife preserve and the flora and fauna are almost beyond compare: whitetail deer, wild turkeys, stay-at-home Canada geese, black bears, pileated woodpeckers, raccoons, opossums, foxes, herons, hawks, grouse, songbirds, snakes, lizards and the rare coyote. Occasionally a migrating swan, osprey or cluster of seagulls stops by for a visit. A nine-person Board of Directors, serving overlapping three-year terms, governs Skylake. Two full-time residents and one part-time resident are elected to the board each year at the annual meeting in October. A general manager and five-person staff handle day-to-day operations. The entrance gate is staffed around the clock by security officers.
Amenities include a 75-by-42-foot pool with cabana, deck, and restrooms, four lighted tennis courts, clubhouse with kitchenette, restrooms, and gymnasium, sheltered master barbecue, horse barn and covered postal facility. Two maintenance buildings, with adjacent parking for recreational vehicles, boats, and trailers, are located conveniently but removed from popular common areas.
Skylakes versatile full-time staff is headquartered in an office building near the main entrance and adjacent to the rustic Skylake Country Store, a gift shop and favorite gathering place for coffee, lunch, fountain drinks, shakes and ice cream. The character of this heavily wooded, large, complex property has been maintained for more than two decades because of strict adherence to the original covenants, residents who are willing to volunteer, long-range planning, and dedicated staff.
